Office attire doesn't have to be boring. Yes, sometimes there are rules regarding what you can wear to the workplace and you have to use your common sense when it comes to amount of skin shown and appropriateness for the environment. However, this doesn't mean you can’t have fun with it and express your unique sense of style. Keeping that in mind, let’s take a look at some office fashion trends and essentials, and get ready to do a work wear wardrobe stocktake, take advantage of end of year sales, and waltz into 2019 looking BOSS.

“The most important thing to remember is that you can wear all the greatest clothes and shoes, but you’ve got to have a good spirit on the inside. That’s what’s really going to make you look like you’re ready to rock the world.”
—Alicia Keys

Wide-Leg Trousers

I reckon wide-leg trousers are a must-have for your work wardrobe, but that's my own short-girl opinion! They are especially great for the summer months, as they provide ultimate comfort whilst still looking cool, classy and covered. Think flattering high-waists, paperbag waists, sporty stripes with luxe fabrics and classic checks. Team with a tailored shirt for a chic look or with a satin cami and blazer for a more relaxed vibe. Invest in both a white and a black pair and you'll have endless possibilities when it comes to office attire.

Pretty in Pastel

Pastel shades are pretty, feminine and fun and Pantone knows it, naming their 2019 colour of the year Living Coral. If you're shopping online there are some great pastel frocks at Petal & Pup that can bring personality to your work attire, however you like to style them. Ditch that plain white blouse and opt for the still popular millennial pale pink one instead. Or, kiss goodbye the standard black pencil skirt, and say hello to a beautiful pale blue skater skirt.

Quirky Collars

When buying a shirt it is all about the collar in 2019. The standard white shirt has received an update - from jewel-embellished collars, pussy-bows, to unique shapes, one little tweak can make a massive difference when wearing a shirt to work. DIY your own collar details or invest in the perfect collared shirt to wear with just about everything. They look great layered under sweaters in winter and smarten up an otherwise casual work wear look. Get ready for the compliments!

Printed Midi Dress

We all need our fashion staples when it comes to creating our work wear wardrobe, yet we also want a standout item that has everyone saying wow and us feeling fly af - and that's exactly what a printed midi dress can do. From flowing floral designs to geometric patterns in a bodycon fit, there are lots of stunning prints that will forever be in fashion for the office. Let your personality shine through whilst still rocking respect for the workplace dress code.

Blazer Vest

A blazer vest is the ultimate chic garment for anyone who wants to opt for a layered and tailored look during the summer months. Team with your wide leg trousers and you can create a straight-off-the runway relaxed suiting office ensemble. And they're not just for the height advantaged among us as they're available in all lengths, colours and fabrics - even belted styles that are perfect waist emphasizers on days you want to disguise a bloated belly! Thank you fashion.

Pleated Skirts

Last but not least, the underrated pleated skirt is a playful and stylish office wear option for summer or winter. They look professional and put together with a fitted blouse and heels, or look just as great with a chic tee and trainers in a more relaxed or creative environment. The skirt is the main attraction, so you needn’t worry about bringing too many other colours or accessories into the equation. And the colours, patterns, cuts and fabrics are actually stunning! A great addition for the work to after work dinner, drinks or party days.

There are lots of exciting trends that can be worn in the office this year, no matter where you work.
But remember true style comes from taking trends and fashions and adding your own 10% to make them YOU.

Happy new year and happy new you!
