Canyons: Morning til Noon | The Art Collection

Canyons: Morning Til Noon, is a collection of abstract expressive artworks I created inspired by stunning photographs of the Antelope Canyon on Navajo Land in Arizona, United States, taken by Ben's dad, John Waters.

The twists and turns of the light and dark, reds and purples, black crevices to nowhere and seemingly perfect holes into space these rock photographs revealed were mesmerizing and I wished to play with those variations of colour, organically mad movement, and contrasts of light for myself.

My aim always, rather than painting an exact likeness is to translate the story of something onto canvas in a way that can be read any number of ways depending on the viewer and their interpretation of the strokes, the title and the pictures they see within the picture.

With these works, especially - recently exhibited at the Radiant Raw Arts Show on the Gold Coast - viewers remarked on seeing the Sydney Opera House, fireworks and peacocks, just to name a few, created by the application of the paint in these artworks. Even more exciting is these impressions change whichever way you spin the some of these works are intended to be spun.

What do you see? What do you feel?
Let me know in the comments below and tell me, where do you go to consume art and why?

“This landscape is animate: it moves, transposes, builds, proceeds, shifts, always going on, never coming back, and one can only retain it in vignettes, impressions caught in a flash, flipped through in succession, leaving a richness of images imprinted on a sunburned retina.”
― Ann Zwinger

“We're only lucky enough to see the wonders of nature's canyons because they're gracious enough to show us the places they've been damaged.”
― Curtis Tyrone Jones

“Should you shield the canyons from the windstorms you would
never see the true beauty of their carvings.”

― Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
