California is easily one of the most popular travel destinations on the planet. The Sunshine State is home to LA, San Francisco and Laguna Beach among others. Of all the places to visit in this wonderful part of the world, San Diego is one of my faves.  Whether you’re looking for an incentive to travel more, or America’s Finest City is next on your bucket list doesn’t matter, here’s how to plan a winning visit to the west coast.

1. Make the Most of the Weather

There’s never a bad time to visit San Diego, but the peak seasons are March-May and September-November. This is partly due to the weather, although there are plenty of other factors to consider. Ultimately, visiting when tourism is booming does open the door to greater activities on offer if that's what you're after. Or you could easily visit for the festive period to embrace the magical multicultural vibes or brave the soaring summer heats in July or August. Either way, the earlier you plan the better for getting the most out of this impressive city.

2. Indulge in the Rancho Relaxo Vibes

There are so many fun and exciting things to do in San Diego but if you're wanting some time to relax and recharge the batteries - it's easy to do with plentiful shopping and dining districts and a range of accommodation options to suit any budget. Staying somewhere like Fairfield Inn & Suites San Diego Old Town enables you to enjoy a slightly more relaxed approach while you’ll still being close enough all the action too. And with a bevvy or two from one of the many local breweries, you can wind things down and immerse yourself in full holiday mode even more.

3. Visit The Main Attractions

San Diego is home to countless tourist attractions like Balboa Park, the Zoo, SeaWorld, Historic Old Town, Little Italy, the Gaslamp Quarter downtown and many museums like the USS Midway Museum. Meanwhile, the city is also home to the Padres as well as many minor league sports teams you may be able to catch in action while you're there. And if you picked San Diego due to seeing it in your favourite films or TV shows, with a little research, you can find some of the locations including the views of the city seen in the Anchorman movies, for example.

4. Seek A Unique Perspective

With so much to do here you could easily spend your days exploring it by foot. However, you can kick things up a notch by taking a tour like Another Side Segway Toursa trolley tour, or even a ghost tour. Guided tours are a great way to see and hear the history, culture and local legends of the area. Other ideas like helicopter tours can be a great way to see Ocean Beach, Point Loma and get a bird's eye view of the beautiful and varied landmarks San Diego offers. However you go, find a unique way to experience all facets of this beautiful city that suits you and it will soon be in your heart forever too.

5. Explore Characterful Coronado

Just getting to this gorgeous resort city across the bay is an experience not to be missed. The high and scooping Coronado Bridge is both a masterpiece to photograph and a thrill to cross. Once over the blue ribbon, the island provides orange lined streets, sweet boutiques, plenty of scenic coastline including city views and the Coronado Naval Base. One of the most iconic landmarks, however, is the historic Victorian Hotel Del Coronado that has hosted many a president, royal and movie star and also featured in a number of books and films since its opening in 1888.
