INTERIOR DESIGN: Fashionable Flooring Trends

Your home is quite possibly the biggest investment that you will ever make. So you’ll want to do everything you can
to keep it looking great and part of that is choosing the right floors to ground your entire look.

This can be easier said than done, but if you're building or renovating and want a modern
and current look, then here are a couple of fashionable flooring ideas to get you started.

Grey is one of the most popular colours when it comes to interior design right now, but not many people choose to have it on their floors. Some people think that it stains too easily while others disregard it as bland. But grey is certainly making a comeback in terms of fashion and it is a great fresh and neutral shade to decorate with. If you want to really bring the most out of an older home then one way for you to do this would be to consider swapping out the flooring, especially if it is old vinyl or shabby carpet. And it's not just the ever popular bamboo flooring that is an option, new vinyl floors are durable, beautiful and great quality. Light grey will reflect the light that is in your home, without resorting to often impractical white. While darker greys are great if you want to give your home a much more dramatic feel.

Pecan and blonde shades are very popular flooring choices at the moment and are also becoming more popular when it comes to interior design overall. These colours work very well with wood such as bamboo and even hard woods, and can give your home a much more solid feel underfoot and brighter look. If you want to give your home a makeover for the summer  and make the rooms seem bigger, then blonde and pecan are certainly winning options.

It doesn’t matter whether it is a geometric pattern, chevron or floral motif - anything goes in pattern fashions right now (hello Gucci) and it is very interesting to see how it influences decoration. If you're looking to inject your home with life and colour and interest, patterned floor tiles are definitely one cool way to do it. You could opt for a classic chess-board layout with black and white, solid colours laid in clever patterns, or really define a timeline with paisley or fleur de lis. Whatever way you work it, patterned flooring tiles can become a real focal point in a room and offer ideal design surprises for small rooms like mudrooms, powder rooms and bathrooms where personality can sometimes be lacking. They also add another layer of interest if you're keen for the eclectic and layered look and have a lot of art or décor to display and play with. Have fun!
