7 Best Books for Spiritual Business Builders

What’s a spiritual business builder anyway?

If you clicked through to this post I’m assuming you’re the kind of heart-felt, heart-full business builder who grows themselves first, inspires others through their own joy and seeks to gift and guide others to their most beautiful life, leaving a legacy of love all the way.

Or you want to be.

You might be opening to a deeper experience of personal development and self-awareness and wanting to explore and nurture that journey. You might be attracting high-vibing humans into your life and business who speak a language your soul secretly knows but wants to know more (I know for me it was like a hungering!). Or maybe you’re in struggle street and love to use wallow in that street and fill that metaphorical street with ever more stuff to be upset about, and you’re turning to God for guidance.

Good! Good move my friend. This list* will serve you well.

1. Light is the New Black

Light is the New Black - Rebecca Campbell

Total essential reading for all my soul sisters out there... or anyone needing some grounding. I have gifted this book more than any other book ever - and that's coming from someone who gifts books almost as a living!

I gobbled up this book when it first came out mid 2015 and it was perfect for where I was at in my journey. A gentle little love-tap reminder that I was on the right path and totally supported at every step.

It reads like beautiful guided play by play of turning on your light and loving it sick. And Aussie expat, Bec, weaves her own very human journey throughout so beautifully with mantra’s and affirmations and bite-sized ‘yessss’ moments.

“The sooner you step up into the greater most authentic version of You, the sooner your fears will dissipate, the sooner your concerns will begin to fade, the sooner life will bend towards you. The more you will flow with life.

I'm a huge fan of everything Bec does and my much dog-eared book (along with it's sister, Rise Sister Rise) sits on my bedside for everyday reference even 2 years later. #fave

2. The Four Agreements

The Four Agreements - Don Miguel Ruiz

This practical guide to personal freedom is a quick and visually stunning read and happens to be a New York Times bestseller for over 8 years, has sold over 6 million copies sold in the U.S. and has been translated into 40 languages worldwide.
Umm, #goals right there - I'm listening!

Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, The Four Agreements are gold for spiritually minded biz chicks and are:

1. Be impeccable with your word.
2. Don’t take anything personally.
3. Don’t make assumptions.
4. Always do your best.

Think of them as a powerful code of conduct revealing the source of self-limiting beliefs that rob us of joy and create needless drama. Apply them to transform you life and experience freedom, true happiness, and love.  How do we get that? Action:

“You can have many great ideas in your head, but what makes the difference is the action. Without action upon an idea, there will be no manifestation, no results, and no reward”

3. The Soul of Leadership

The Soul of Leadership - Deepak Chopra

Spiritual legend, Deepak, urges you to become a leader with vision who can make that vision real. (#yesplease) With clear, practical steps, he leads you through the crucial skills found in L-E-A-D-E-R-S: L = Look and Listen, E = Emotional Bonding, A = Awareness, D = Doing, E = Empowerment, R = Responsibility, S = Synchronicity. And after identifying your own soul profile and core values, you can use these seven skills to allow your greatness to emerge.

There's some common sense instructions on how to be a rad person too (that only took me a few years in business to realise isn't as all that common after all).... like this gem:

“What makes a good listener?
1. Not interrupting.
2. Showing that you empathize: not criticizing, arguing, or patronizing.
3. Establishing a physical sense of closeness without invading personal space.
4. Observing body language and letting yours show you are not distracted but attentive.
5. Offering your own self-disclosures, but not too many, or too soon.
6. Understanding the context of the other person’s life.
7. Listening from all four levels: body, mind, heart, and soul.”

The path he outlines applies to business, community and all areas of life - from family, home and school, to place of worship, and neighborhood. “At the deepest level,” Chopra writes, “a leader is the symbolic soul of a group.”

This book bible aims to fill the critical void in contemporary life - the void of enlightened leaders. #soletsfillit

4. The Universe Has Your Back

The Universe Has Your Back - Gabrielle Bernstein

Gabby Berstein is kind of amazing, like a real-life goddess. The first book of hers I read was Spirit Junkie a few years ago, and I was an instant-fan. A now sober ex-NYC party gal, she underwent a massive transformation and thank God she did because she was seriously born to share her fierce spirit with us.

She is one of the most eloquent speakers (check her out on YouTube and be mesmerized), but I feel in this book she did a Star Wars and took it right back to the beginning and kinda confused the order of things. But hey, it's a great introductory read to the radical idea that everything is going to be OK - to turn your fear into faith - because the universe does indeed have your back.

Her stories and lessons teach us to release the blocks to what we most long for: happiness, security and clarity with the direction of our lives. Perfect for the modern #bossbirl to relax into a sense of certainty, stop chasing life and truly live in your true power. #imdownforthat

Pop these affirmations into your phone and say it with me sister:

“I witness that I’m out of alignment with my power. I choose to see peace instead of this.”

“I recognize that I have chosen wrongly, I forgive this thought, and I choose again. I choose love”

5. Rise Sister Rise

Rise Sister Rise - Rebecca Campbell

I told you I was a fan, so it's only natural that this one comes next. I adore the message all of these books share, but best expressed here, that following what you love to do and who you truly are lights up you and every corner of your life, literally lighting your way to success. That’s why this list needs to exist!

This is a guide for those ready to change their life circumstances -

"a call to arms for women to rise up, tell their truth and lead using their innate powers and wisdom."

This book is for you if you're at a crossroads, being called to stand up and be heard, or are ready to follow a dream. It's a great big #yougotthisgirl - reminding us that we have always been courageous, encouraging, passionate, compassionate, confident, self-assured, and radiant women. And thankfully, we are waking up to remember that...with the support of our fellow sisters.

It took me forever to read this book because I kept stopping to call girlfriends and #preach the ah-ha's found within its pages. It's had a big impact too; 1.in myself, listening to my rhythms and shedding some seriously weighty 'ideals' to simply embrace all of me; and 2. in my friendships, vowing we show up for each other and consciously not bringing girl competition, shame, or 'shoulds' into our circle...like ever.

Pass this one around your tribe and thrive in the natural seasons and cycles of being woman.

6. The Untethered Soul

The Untethered Soul - Michael A. Singer

Ok, this book is major and not to be ignored - it goes places few other books dare to go and will bust open your thinking to…well…peace.

Lots of contemplation was served with this book so it took me a while to read it.
Without spoiling too much, this sums it up so beautifully:

“If you want to be happy, you have to let go of the part of you that wants to create melodrama. This is the part that thinks there’s a reason not to be happy. You have to transcend the personal, and as you do, you will naturally awaken to the higher aspects of your being. In the end, enjoying life’s experiences is the only rational thing to do. You’re sitting on a planet spinning around in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Go ahead, take a look at reality. You’re floating in empty space in a universe that goes on forever. If you have to be here, at least be happy and enjoy the experience. You’re going to die anyway. Things are going to happen anyway. Why shouldn’t you be happy? You gain nothing by being bothered by life’s events. It doesn’t change the world; you just suffer. There’s always going to be something that can bother you, if you let it.”

7. Personal Power Through Awareness

Personal Power Through Awareness - Sanaya Roman

A pretty extraordinary read, this book was recommended to me by a real-life angel who saw I was really going to need it's teachings. And the teachings are profound and beautiful, channeled through the compassionate Orin.

If you're a sensitive soul like me you will love learning how to harness it. This taught me to use the higher energies of the universe for massive personal transformation, protection and transference. It taught me how to raise my vibration, how to recognize when I've taken on other people's energies, how to release them, to send and receive telepathic messages, and open my intuition to healing connections and guidance.

Kinda essential in today's hectic tech world where we can make 'off' decisions or judgements from all the noise, she says smartly:

“To sense energy accurately, learn to get quiet, to step outside your thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and to become a blank screen so that you can receive impressions.... the next step is to assume an attitude of confidence, and trust the information you are receiving.”

This book will have you discovering more about who you are and strengthening your commitment to yourself, your path and a whole lot of positive vibes on offer to you. (You feeling the theme here, right?) Best bit: You will know when to pay attention to your own needs and when to be selfless so you can let go of feeling responsible for everyone else's happiness! #hallelujah

*Whatever your reason or season there’s this thing about lists that I don’t want you to miss.

Maybe because they are so neatly point-formed and short we think we can skip over them and feel better forever. Or we skim through the pictures and click BUY NOW on the book with the prettiest cover. The book arrives a few days later and we’ve already forgotten we bought it and then because, like, we’re busy, we chuck it in the pile beside our bed and eventually move it to a cupboard on cleanup day, never really getting around to reading it.

It’s cool, I get it. No judgement here. And no judgement there.
The book won’t look away in disdain and snap its pages shut to you undeserving ignoramus. Nope.

The book will still be there when you hit a wall again and grope around your extremities looking for solutions.

My point is that is all ego and the very best way to allow these books to have an impact on you and in you is to read them. Really read them. And share their message with someone. Then probably read them again.
