When it comes to creating the life you want, vision boards are incredibly helpful tools, and in a similar vein, if you’re looking to create a beautiful interior, mood boards are a great way to hone your vision and ensure a coherent approach to redecorating your home.

There’s very little difference between vision boards and mood boards, yet they have somewhat different purposes - for instance, a vision board is usually associated with the life you want; aspects such as travel experiences, personal image, relationships, career and money all tend to appear on a vision board.

A mood board, however, is focused more on the design and aesthetic aspects of a particular creation - this could be an interior, a website, a personal style, or a haircut.

The key difference: a vision board is more about the feelings and experiences you want to manifest in your life, whereas a mood board is a little more specific in terms of the aesthetic blueprint for what you wish to create.

So before you overlook them as fluff and nonsense, understand how effective some positive play putting together a vision board can be for love, life, business, career, home, health, happiness and so much more. It might just be the perfect first step to discovering your clear purpose and path forward.

THE POWER OF VISUALISATION

In both mood boards and vision boards, you are visualising a future outcome, and this sends out a signal in the universe that this is something you want.  Now, if the idea of 'the universe' is a bit too much for you right now, let’s take a look at the science.

You have a conscious mind and a subconscious mind.

Your conscious mind is the tip of the iceberg, in that it’s your subconscious mind that tends to shape the majority of your decisions and behaviours.

Many people, are not aware of the power of their conscious mind, and as a result leave it on autopilot… yet, your subconscious mind is something you can program and condition.

We are visualising all the time, whether we mean to or not, and your mind can’t help but think in pictures.  The science of metaphysics has demonstrated time and time again that what we focus on, we bring about, which can be summed up in the phrase 'thoughts become things.'

Athletes that are hooked up to biofeedback machines, that visualise running a race in their mind, find the same muscles trigger in the same sequence as when they are physically running the race. (PS. This type of programming is how I skydived out of a perfectly good plane with 0 fear even though I'd previously believed it was the scariest thing I could ever do...but that's a Storytime with Sam for another day!)

Your subconscious mind thinks in pictures, and what you dwell on, you bring about - meaning, if you are focusing on a public speaking engagement going horribly wrong, there’s a good chance it will… which is why so many people swear by the power of positive visualization in order to enhance their confidence and optimise their performance.

Now, when it comes to attracting the things you want in your life, you want to focus on the pictures and feelings that you want to bring into your life. So many people, when it comes to attracting the partner of their dreams are focused on what they don’t want, that they bring it into existence. Instead, you want to shift your focus to what you do want and dwell on that. If you need to make a list of the things you don't want first to get super clear on the DO WANT list!

Start to become more aware of what you’re visualising and you will seriously transform your life.

WHY MOOD BOARDS AND VISION BOARDS WORK

Another benefit of vision boards and mood boards is that it helps us get very clear on what we are deeply drawn to, on a subconscious level.  For instance, if you keep putting pictures of open fires on your Pinterest board, it may your subconscious telling you that you associate a feeling of home with having an open fire - therefore, you can start moving towards that instead of often been overwhelmed by choice. A confused mind says no, so a clear vision will help you navigate directly to your desires.

Once we know what we want, we can then start to dig down into the detail and look for ways to fulfil that desire, for instance, you could start doing research into the idea of converting wood fireplace to gas insert if you discover that what you most want is the convenience of a gas fire, rather than having to clean out the ashes each day.

Allow yourself to dream big and explore all avenues of your desires when assembly a physical or digital vision or mood board. This is much better than first researching the specific details and then finding out what’s on offer… as mood boards ensure you find ways to get what you actually want, in terms of your interior and life rather than to simply settle for what is convenient or 'realistic.'
